Bring a project you’ve been wanting to print and spend a relaxed evening at District Riso. During Print & Sip, you’ll get guidance from owner Danielle as she helps you create final prints. Whether you’re brand new or have some experience, this is a low-pressure way to learn, experiment, and get your work on paper.
You’ll also have time to chat with other local artists and printers, share ideas, and enjoy a couple of drinks along the way. Each ticket includes two glasses of wine or juice.
Printing costs are pay-as-you-go:

Risograph Flipbooks

Turn a 3-second animation into a hand-printed Risograph flipbook. Learn frame setup, printing, and binding. Great for all levels!
Bring your drawings to life in this hands-on flipbook workshop! Participants will bring a short animation or video (approximately 3 seconds long) and learn how to transform it into a printed flipbook using the Risograph. We'll walk through selecting and preparing frames, setting up artwork for Risograph printing, printing your pages, and binding everything together into a finished flipbook.
Whether you're brand new to Risograph printing or already have experience with the process, this workshop offers a fun way to explore animation through print. You'll leave with a unique, hand-printed flipbook and a better understanding of how motion and Risograph can work together.

Design Riso Postcards

Join District Riso at Merry Pin to design your own two-color risograph postcard! Using transparency paper, markers, and pens, students will create bold layered artwork ready for risograph printing. Each participant will receive 10 printed copies of their postcard at a later date to keep, trade, or send to friends through the mail. Perfect for beginners, artists, and anyone curious about the magic of risograph printing.

Dear Diary: A Risograph Zine Workshop

Create a personal zine with words and images, then print 10 copies on the Risograph. No experience needed!
Tell your story through image and text in this personal zine-making workshop. Using writing, drawing, collage, photographs, or a combination of creative approaches, participants will create a short personal narrative inspired by memories, daily life, observations, or experiences.
Participants will create a one-color, one-sheet folded zine and print their work on the Risograph. Each student will leave with 10 copies of their finished zine to share, trade, or keep.
No previous writing, art, or Risograph experience is required. This workshop is open to all skill levels.

Junk Journaling Night

Junk journal with riso scraps, stickers, washi tape, and magazines. A relaxed, creative night to collage, experiment, and connect.
Spend a creative evening junk journaling at District Riso. Flip, layer, and collage using a mix of risograph scraps, misprints, and colorful paper, along with stickers, washi tape, magazines, and other fun materials.
This is a relaxed, no-pressure space to experiment, build pages, and connect with other creatives. Bring your own journal or start fresh with materials available on-site.

Mini Risograph Comics

Draw, print, and take home your own one-page comic! Learn comics storytelling and print 10 copies on the Risograph.
Draw and print a comic page with the riso machine!
Students will learn about basic comics and storytelling principles. Using transparency paper, students will conceptualize and draw a one-page comic (plus one color separation) and scan it on the riso. You will leave with 10 copies of your work.
No previous drawing or comics experience required, but come ready to create!

Digital Drawing for Risograph Bootcamp

Learn how to turn your digital illustrations into vibrant Risograph prints in this four-session bootcamp. Over four evenings, you'll learn how to prepare digital files for Riso, use the Risograph printer, and create both two-color and multi-color prints from start to finish.

By the end of the bootcamp, you'll have a collection of finished prints and the skills to confidently create your own Risograph-ready artwork.
1: Designing for Risograph
Learn how to create digital files for Risograph printing, including layers and color separations. We'll also look at inspiring examples from artists working with Riso before you begin designing.
Session 2: First Prints
Learn the basics of using the Risograph printer, print practice pages, and begin creating your two-color print.
Session 3: Two-Color Print
Complete your two-color print, participate in a group critique, and start designing a three- or four-color print.
Session 4: Final Prints & Celebration
Print your final artwork, share your work during a group critique, and celebrate the end of the bootcamp with a wine sip.

Intro to Risograph Printing

Curious about risograph? This beginner-friendly workshop is the perfect place to start. Bring a digital artwork, and we’ll guide you through the basics of how the machine works, how to separate your design into ink layers, and how risograph color builds through overprinting. Each participant will print and take home 10 of their own 2-color prints, along with a solid foundation for future riso projects.
This workshop will take place at District Riso’s studio, 52 O Street NW, Unit L6, Washington, DC 20001.
Students will be eligible for printer rentals after taking this workshop.
Zine Lab
$90
A Three-Week Workshop: August 29, September 5, September 12, 11:30 am - 1:30 pm
Make a zine from scratch over three Saturdays — from first idea to finished, printed, bound object.
Week One is about inspiration: we'll look at how different artists approach zine-making and work through prompts designed to spark ideas for your project.
Week Two is about making: we work on individual projects together, workshopping challenges in format, structure, and content.
Week Three is about printing and finishing: we print on the Risograph and finish your zine with folds, cuts, and simple binding.
Each participant prints 2 masters — 10 impressions each — in any available color, with the option to add on at District Riso's standard pricing.
Open to all levels. No experience necessary.
